The Polymerase Chain Raction:
Purpose
: What type of alu genes we have by using our own DNA and an agarose gel electrophoresis.
Hypothesis
: By doing my agarose gel electrophoresis correctly, I can determine if I'm heterozygous or homozygous.
Materials and procedure:
9% saline solution
micropipettes, tip
waste container
microcentrifuge
microcentrifuge tubes
PCR tubes
agarose
1x TAE
gel chambers and molds
load dye
chelex
racks
primer mix
master mix
water
positive control DNA

Please refer to this handout for all our information
Results
: My whole group and I messed it up but we don't know where we went wrong, so we didn't have any results.
Analysis
: Possible mishaps could have been:
kelex beads didn't work
didnt put proper measurements
gel wasn't put together correctly
After I did my project a second time
Dr. LB gave a few of us a second chance to see if we could redo our project again and see if we are heterozygous or homozygous.
I am in lane 4 and it reads heterozygous
